Blank Rascal opens by promising to answer the question of what lies at the edge of the universe. He knows that other YouTube channels have tried and failed, and he also knows that his previous video promised to solve humanity’s problems. Space wins the first instalment of that larger plan. The question begins as the sort of late-night smoking-area debate that can hold a room or empty it, then expands into a problem that the speaker cannot solve because the possible answers become harder to imagine as they become more complete.

The universe we can observe

The first answer is the least satisfying one. The edge of the universe is the limit of what we can observe. The observable universe may be only part of a larger whole, and the scale already visible is difficult to hold in the mind. It contains more stars than there are grains of sand on Earth, according to the source. A handful of sand becomes a small exercise in terror once each grain stands in for a star. More galaxies, stars, nebulae and black holes beyond the observable limit would add scale to a universe that already exceeds ordinary comprehension.

Blank Rascal reduces the possibilities to an initial pair. The universe may continue for ever, or it may stop somewhere. An infinite universe creates a problem that the video treats as both scientific and theological. If stars continue without end, then the universe contains infinite power. The speaker asks where that power came from and answers, half-seriously, with God. He keeps the religious question separate from the video’s main line, whilst linking infinity to the Big Bang, theories about creation and the possible death of the universe. A wall at the end of everything

The finite option begins with a thought experiment. If the universe expands and a traveller moves faster than that expansion, the traveller might eventually reach a place where there is no universe. The traveller stands at the edge with the stars behind them and nothing ahead. Curiosity might carry them forward, although the scene offers no reason to leave the shelter of existence.

The question then moves from the edge of the universe to the edge of nothing. A ship travels into the void until the universe disappears even through an implausibly powerful telescope. The ship still moves, so the distance between the traveller and everything they know continues to grow. At some point that distance must stop, the speaker says. The boundary could act as a force field. It could also behave like a universal gravity that holds the traveller inside a bubble. Breaking through would raise the question of what lies outside, a question the source leaves deliberately inconceivable. A hard boundary creates a new philosophical problem because something must account for the wall. Blank Rascal again turns to God. Even a barrier so large that humanity could never reach it would imply rules that someone or something has imposed. He prefers this universe to an infinite one because a wall would at least make the rules legible.

Infinite nothing

The speaker’s least favourite answer is an infinite void surrounding a finite universe. The stars and galaxies already contain gaps, and the universe itself may end in an emptiness that extends for ever. Compared with that void, the whole universe becomes a tiny island that almost fails to count as an object at all. The source jokes that infinity may not even be a real word, then grants the universe a small consolation: it exists, and that fact matters because someone is alive inside it.

The bonus answer gives the universe the shape of a donut. A traveller could move in one direction for ever and return to the place where they began. Blank Rascal calls this a multiply connected topology theory and says that the universe could take other shapes as well. The donut offers an odd compromise: the universe is infinite from the traveller’s point of view, yet it also traps every journey within a closed structure.

The joke then turns into a sketch with Albert Einstein. Einstein rejects the donut because of the Big Bang, which the source treats as a clear beginning or expansion. The exchange wanders into nuclear war and J. Robert Oppenheimer before Blank Rascal pulls it back to the edge of the universe. He says that atomic destruction could fill several later videos, leaving this one with its narrower concern: the shape and limit of existence itself.

The ending admits that the video has spent its time making the question stranger rather than settling it. The edge may be an infinite continuation, a wall, an infinite void or a loop. Human beings live inside a universe whose scale, outside and origin remain beyond direct experience, yet the universe exists and contains thought.

Blank Rascal leaves the viewer free to choose an answer, keep none, or believe that Earth is flat and the stars are fairy lights. The joke returns the question to ordinary human limits. The source’s interest lies in the fact that every imagined solution gives the imagination another edge to cross.
